Do women use hotel bathroom toiletries?

Men and women rarely share toiletry products at home.  So why do hotels offer only one type of shampoo, conditioner and body wash? And why are these products often times more masculine than feminine?

When traveling, I choose to pack my own preferred brands of toiletries. Because of the 3oz liquid restrictions on flights, I fill up easy to use GoToob bottles with my favorite shampoo, conditioner, and body wash (for more info see Road Warriorette’s excellent article on packing tips).  I prefer this to buying a lot of “trial size” items, since many of the brands I like aren’t available in less than 3 oz sizes.

It’s the best solution I’ve found, but far from perfect.  First off, filling up these bottles is a bit messy, and I still need to pack make up remover, body lotion, cream, etc.  Therefore, all my toiletries do not fit in a single Ziploc bag. Thankfully, going through airport security with 2 ziplocs hasn’t been a problem.

On the other hand, my husband has no problem fitting all his toiletries products in a single Ziploc bag. Why? Well, like most guys, he doesn’t use as many products as I use.  However, the big difference is he doesn’t mind using the hotel’s toiletries!

Because I create city guides, I spend a lot of time in hotels, and bring this topic up with sales directors, marketing directors, and general managers.  Interestingly enough, many of them say it’s a problem that they never thought of or considered before!

So, do you use hotels toiletries products? Would you pay extra to have your favorite products waiting for you in your room?

On Facebook Donna Zeigfinger says "depends on the toiletries. Sometimes they go home with me as well. :)"
