It’s not easy shopping for a woman of the world. She already has access to it all at the many duty-free shops she frequents and countries she visits. And even if you have a special gift in mind, it’s hard to tell if it will fit into her 3x3 carry-on. However, we at Via Her have come up with a list of gifts for the up-coming holiday season that will not only bring a smile to her face and fit into a carry-on- but won’t necessarily break the bank either.
For the techie traveler, the new Amazon Kindle is a must have. Carrying around bulky books may become a thing of the past. This wireless gadget allows its readers to quickly download e-books and other digital media with the push of a button. For those who enjoy guilty-pleasure chick lit – the Kindle means no more embarrassing queuing purchasing the latest Sophie Kinsella novel at the airport bookshop. If your Via Her traveler already has a Kindle, Amazon also makes a protective leather case for $29.99; get it monogrammed to add that extra something special. Note that since Kindle’s are electronic devices, they cannot be used at take-off or landing. Kindle’s run for about $250.
Pamper her. Consider cashmere anything: socks, sweaters, or a pashmina. Temperatures in airplanes are seldom consistent- it’s either burning hot or freezing cold- and usually a bit of both. A woman traveler needs to have comfortable and breathable layers- and it doesn’t hurt looking good either. I never travel without my cashmere poncho- it acts as my blanket, sweater, scarf, face-mask, whatever. For affordable cashmere, try Uniqlo. They sell very comfy sweaters for as little as $40; if you want higher end, check out Vanessa Bruno’s cashmere line. Sock can go for as little as $10; check out online souces like Nordstrom.com or shopstyle.com.
For comfort and style, a Longchamp purse and some matching Tod’s loafers, please. These brand-name accessories are where quality and durability meet. Longchamps purses are chic carry-alls that come in a variety of shapes and sizes- and somehow survive the mysterious destructive processes of baggage claim, if she should decide to check it in; prices range from $75-$150 . Tod’s are just comfortable: plain and simple. They are breathable, flexible, and cozy loafers that are as easy on the eyes as they are on the feet. No metal in these shoes which means breezing through security without going barefoot. At $400 a pair, they are a bit pricey, but these shoes last forever.
