16 Hours in Dubai

Hiya,

I have a 16 hour layover in Dubai coming up in a couple of weeks, and would love to see the Burj Al Arab hotel and the indoor ski slopes.  Is this easy to do?  Anyone experience issues with visas or getting around?  Anything else you can recommend to do in such a short period of time?

Hi kef527,

I have traveled to Dubai a few times and never had a problem. It's a very "westernized" city. You can get a visa at your arrival at the airport. I don't know anyone who has ever had a problem with visa; UNLESS you have a stamp from Israel in your passport. Then it can definitely be an issue.

As far as going to the Burj and the Indoor Ski slopes, you should take a taxi from your hotel or from the airport. There are numerous taxis waiting near these two places, so that shouldn't be a problem at all.

To visit the Burj, I think you should check in advance because to my knowledge only people who have reservation are allowed to enter the hotel. Make a reservation for lunch or dinner maybe?

Have a good trip!

SHOPPING!  Dubai (or do-buy as some people call it) is a great place to go on a shopping spree.  Very nice malls with exquisite jewelry and high-end stores (all part of their plan to allure westerners there).  I personally like the Mall of Emirates (where the indoor ski slope is), which is about 20 minutes by taxi from the airport.

If you're lucky enough to be flying Emirates in Business or First Class, they'll give you a hotel room in the Le Meredian hotel across the street (free of charge) - and they have a nice spa.
