Abu Dhabi
Hello. This may sounds like a silly question, but I have to go to Abu Dhabi for 3 days in August (for work). I am thinking of spending the weekend there and flying back on Sunday. I will be traveling alone. Some colleagues told me it was safe for a woman and a great place to do shopping, but I wanted to see if anyone here could confirm. Is there anything in particular I should visit? (again, keep in mind that I will be alone). What is the appropriate dress code? Gracias! -karen- |

Hi NewShoes,
Abu Dhabi! Well, yes, it's definitely a good place for shopping. They have gigantic malls! Try the Abu Dhabi Mall and the Marina Mall. I believe those two are open late (in case you want to do shopping in the evening). Abu Dhabi is definitely safe and you can dress pretty much the way you want. You will see women wearing burqas and women wearing mini-skirts. In doubt, just pack clothes that are not too provoking (especially if you are traveling alone). But you will not have any problem. You can also go to Dubai (take a car service or a bus) and visit the gold and spice markets. The shopping there is even better. It's about 2 hours away. I believe you can also do tours in the desert from Abu Dhabi but I don't know the details.
Anyway, stay for the weekend. You shouldn't be bored!
